Slow Cooker “Barbeque”

No, it isn’t really barbeque, but it tastes amazingly similar. The smoked beer really makes it, but I’m sure you could use any beer.

The cornbread is my same recipe as usual, but made in a novely corn shaped cast iron. They were cute, but get stale much quicker. I’m not going to give you a recipe for the cole slaw or macaroni and cheese, since they are the same way as most Americans make.

The BBQ rub and sauce recipes are my family standard recipes. Should you be making real barbeque, use them!

BBQ Sauce (3 cups):

  • 1 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup diced onion

Bring ingredients to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 90 minutes, or until thick.

BBQ Rub:

  • 4 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 4 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cayenne

Mix all ingredients.

Slow Cooker “BBQ”:

  • 2 lb stew beef, cubed
  • 1 tbsp worchestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup BBQ rub
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 4 oz smoked beer
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce

Mix beef, worchestershire sauce, rub, and honey. Put in slow cooker and cover with beer. Cook on low for 12 hours. When done, shred the meat with forks and add sauce.
